are the nintendo code lyoko games good? i really want to buy them, but theyre kinda expensive and im not sure if theyre good or just cash grabs😭

I thought the Wii game (Quest for Infinity) was incredible! The motion controls and 3D adventure/platformer elements made me feel like I was really in Lyoko! The DS game, Fall of Xana, is a challenging RPG with pixel graphics that’s a little less my cup of tea than the Wii game. It’s very challenging, and I just barely manage to get find items to survive, which is better than it being boring. You use the stylus to move the character, and the battles have menus like a turn based RPG, but it’s actually time-based. Enemies will not wait for you to make a move before attacking. I wouldn’t say the DS game is bad by any means, but I would definitely pick the Wii game over it, since it felt more immersive.

I totally think Code lyoko should have it's talked about reboot, mostly because

- when it came to Carthage, the most canon explanation from Franz himself, the explanation only lasts about 1 minute and 25 seconds, and nothing else comes of it

Sure, we knew why Xana was created, but like, Franz never really said Xana stopped it as it was his main intended purpose, why Xana was made to begin with, so like, that's a real issue in canon consitering Franz wanted to stop the project but never got to consitering Xana gained autonomy and all

And like, Carthage was kind of hinted at to be a bad thing too, you'd think that could be a real issue in universe

- spent 3 whole seasons building on this one character only not to do much with it at all and give him a really bad rep in universe afterwards

Okay, you know me, I like William an abnormal amount, but with all things considered, he wasn't a character to begin with, neither was a plot device imo

Yeah, he absolutely has no personality, argue with the wall if you need to

So like, yeah, he got posessed, but then what? Sure he was used to try to throw Aelita into the Digital sea, but like, tarantulas could do the same thing with those long ass arms, they could just use them as bats

And you've literally seen megatanks push her closer to the digital sea when she used a energy field as a sheild of sorts, so really, what was the point of him to begin with of other monsters could do the same thing no problem

And after a whole season of dawdling around, the writers rushed the whole "set him free" arc after ignoring it for basically the whole season, like there wasn't any episodes besides cold sweat where the characters actively try to break him free, you'd think there would be a little more give from the characters considering how #depressed Yumi was

(and yes, I know the show says, "I made ___ program" but let us see the FAILURE!!!!)

Even then, when he came back, the characters all decide "fuck this, you ain't shit to me" and dropkick him back to his life without any support, like dude lost months of his life without something he either remembers or blanked out on

Okay, this isn't really a reason why, it's more of saying "Why did you make your characters worse, we deserve better"

Because Odd in season four just became an absolutely terrible person, man

Constantly throwing his freinds under the bus just for some scheme he pulled or literally abusing the fact that he knows about Lyoko as a point to say to the others "This is why we're friends!!!1!@1!!" Even though at this point their friendship is downright terrible, like to the point where they just want to get Lyoko dealed with so they can fall apart like a poorly put together cup with scotch taped all over it

Imo nobody seemed to like each other as opposed to season 1 and 2 where they talked casually, like they had an actual friendship going on, not like "so, what's new on Lyoko, I want this shit dealt with today..." they were actual friends who did stuff together and had fun, I miss that :<

Anyways that was a more personal take, but season 4 just leaves a bad taste in my mouth with that rushed ending of theirs

Uhm oops, this was a long rant of what I dislike about the show, I was supposed to make this post simply to tell you guys what I'd propose for a continuation

Here's what I'd do:

Consitering Carthage was an abandoned idea from the depths of season 2, we build on that again

I'm imagining a non-terribly written Evo mixed with the chronicles, like bitch I actually love the idea of Ulrichs dad being tied in with Carthage simply because like, it would make so much sense (absolutely don't pull a chronicles though making EVREYONES mothers under the sun being tied in, that was stupid)

I'm also thinking, the antagonist we have is still a program, but it isn't Xana like in main series

Sure, they're simular, but it's a remnant from Carthage that has the same ideas as Xana, but worse (this is all first draft, but that's like the main idea that could work)

Also, give Will and actual personality this time, not just this "I'm soooooo sad" attitude that any traumatized character has, he has the potential to be COMPLEX!!!!

Kids cartoons nowadays are getting complex so don't say "Oh no they can't, it's a kids cartoon"

Anyways I'm hoping they build off of Carthage because that would be a PERFECT continuation aauaghh

I watched Dimensional collision (a Roblox fangame based on Sonic exe the disaster but with múltiple videogame characters like Yuri and sayori from Doki Doki literature club, the cuphead bros, Sans, frisk(+flowey) and Chara from Undertale, Sonic, Tails and Vanilla (she has undyne spear)from Sonic and Boris from bendy!

And I thought what if someone did It with characters from TV shows?

The only series I think could have a Sonic exe ver is Code Lyoko because of X.A.N.A which is a IA and the plot is around a digital world

Obviously Xana is the exe

And I think adventure time could make into It as a crossover of sorts

I wanted to do a Code Lyoko cross stitch but I wasn't sure what sort of artwork to start with, then I remembered the sprites from Fall of XANA. I picked out some nice frames and then turned it into a pattern using FlossCross (wonderful tool btw). I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

You can find the pattern below if you want to make it for yourself. It uses DMC colours, though when I made it I swapped most of them for leftover Dimensions thread I already had, so the colours might be a bit different. On 14 count aida, the finished design measures about 15.5x6.5cm (6.1x2.5in).

Alright. At long last, I present to you the bracket...or should I say...*BRACKETS* for the Virtual Character Tournament!

Given the scale, the first round is going to be one bracket per week, 4 a day, with each lasting 24 hours. Final post on my Code Lyoko thoughts, as I finally managed to get everything I think about evolution sorted out in my head, no meme redraw this time cause I ran out of ideas lolz

Like I mentioned in my season 4 post, Evolution is its own can of worms that I went into with an open mind, so let’s start with what I liked: you can tell a lot of the budget went into the animation on lyoko, and as an artist myself, I will always appreciate others’ art. There’s some movements and expressions I really liked that simply couldn’t have been achieved in the 2000’s when the original show was running, even if I prefer the original artstyle. I also like some of the ideas put into Lyoko, personal favorite being the block wall. 10/10 best creation in all of fiction for real

I have mixed feelings on a lot of things, as while the show isn’t the worst, it definitely falls short compared to the original series. Making the real world scenes live action limits the ability for interesting XANA attacks, so we’re just stuck with spectres running after someone for the bajillionth time. I’m also not the biggest fan of the Tyrone plot point. The real world just kinda feels abandoned, almost nothing happens in it that doesn’t involve Lyoko, and part of why I liked the original show so much is the balance between saving the world and teen drama

Evolution doesn’t help itself by not only not answering questions left by the original series, but leaving new plot holes or just straight up forgetting things that happened in the first four seasons

If you enjoy evolution a lot that’s totally cool, and I’m happy you can enjoy something I’m not the biggest fan of, but personally while it has good parts, I get the most enjoyment out of it by treating it as an AU if that makes sense, not the worst show or anything, but definitely the weakest part of Code Lyoko to me

In other news I am still enticed by this series and now that I know the tumblr fandom for it is still alive I will be engaging with it more, I still adore this whole series so so much

Code: July Day 3 - Aelita

The first Jerlita I've written for this, will not be the last. Also I may need to post a few of these in a row because of being behind so sorry in advance to everyone else

...

As Aelita lands in a neat, well-practiced crouch, she swears she already feels different, though she knows it's probably psychosomatic. Still, she lets that feeling overpower the nervous flips her stomach had just been doing regarding the idea of returning to Lyoko. She raises her arms over her head and feels how the muscles don't stretch like they do on Earth--a fact she'd taken for granted, but the differences had become more and more pronounced as she'd gotten used to Earth.

And now, she wonders how she could've ever forgotten them. Perhaps a part of her had always known something had been missing.

But she had only found that missing piece two weeks ago, after all.

"Aelita? How do you feel?"

Jeremie's worried voice vibrating in her head is a comfortable familiarity, though ever since she'd learned the difference, she'd decided she much preferred talking to him in person.

"I'm fine," Aelita says, putting her hands on her hips and surveying the ice plateau where she'd landed. "Better than fine, actually."

A sigh of relief, a rush of static inside her ears. "I imagine this would feel pretty different, and not just because of the new code..."

Despite all of their encouragement, the Lyoko Warriors had clearly been in various states of sulking or brooding for the two weeks since XANA had escaped. It didn't help that the newspeople wouldn't stop going on about the bizarre weather on that day--the mysterious cyclone that had appeared on the Seine and vanished just as quickly, briefly taking half of Paris' power grid with it.

Aelita had been no exception, trying to process everything that had happened and all of her new memories. Teachers had started noticing she wasn't raising her hand as much, was going to and from classes without so much as stopping to enjoy the sunshine in the courtyard, would miss dinner more days than not. But she'd woken up one morning and decided that she was simply sick and tired of sitting around waiting for some horrible news to hit them, not to mention the fact that the others were still treating her like glass was starting to get on her nerves.

So, she'd practically busted Jeremie's door down and made a demand, now that he could safely access her virtual profile data without risking her existence. This would be their first test run of the code he'd added.

"You should come down here," Aelita quips, glancing skyward without anywhere else to really focus her gaze. "If this works, we could spar."

"Yeah, if you want a Megatank to show up." She can practically see his eye-roll. "XANA hates it when I go down there."

Aelita folds her arms. "I still haven't seen what you look like on Lyoko."

"And you're not gonna. You'd just laugh."

"You know, I've noticed Odd keeps calling you Gandalf when talking about you on Lyoko." Aelita raises an eyebrow, and she smirks, knowing he can't see it. "I do know who that is now..."

Jeremie proceeds to make a sound like he's just swallowed a fly, and Aelita can't help but burst out laughing, imagining what his face must look like.

"It--it's not how you think," he sputters.

"And it's clearly not as bad as you were expecting," Aelita points out. "You even told the boys not to look at you until you saw what your avatar looked like, and they were there."

...Jeremie suddenly falls quiet. Aelita's brows furrow, and she wonders if he'd gotten distracted or if she'd said something wrong--it's impossible to tell without being able to see him, and that could be very frustrating at times.

"...That was just...because..." Another pause. "Nevermind, you've got company."

Aelita immediately switches into business mode, falling into a crouch and casting her gaze about the immediate area. "What and where?"

"Kankrelats, three, at ten-o-clock, still a ways off. They're probably the scouting party." Worry creeps back into Jeremie's voice. "Are you sure about this? There might still be some bugs...Auto-devirtualization should work on you now, but--"

"Jeremie, don't," she says softly. "I'll be okay." An idea strikes her. "Would you like to watch?"

"Huh? Can you manage that at the same time?"

"I should be able to..."

Aelita puts two fingers to her temple, screwing up her face in concentration. A rectangular screen, translucent green in color, pops up floating in front of her left eye, white circle in the middle spinning for a few seconds before the interface settles.

"Got it! ...I'll never get used to how flat the ice sector is. I know it's mostly because the textures broke, but still."

"And to think, I just assumed this is what all ice looked like."

"Here they come..."

It's the sound of skittering little metal claws that alerts her first, and she catches the aforementioned kankrelats hurrying towards her. She'd noticed XANA's monsters could have a surprising amount of personality, and indeed, these ones seem...confused by her presence. It makes sense, considering that as far as they (or XANA, she's not sure how much of an eye he's got on Lyoko itself at the moment) are concerned, she'd just virtualized in to stand around out in the open.

And that is exactly what she'd been planning on doing.

She holds out her hands in front of her, palms upward, taking a deep breath she knows she doesn't need. The program was voice-activated, like most of the others' powers, and though Jeremie had showed her a model of what would happen, there's still a chance of the program behaving differently or backfiring when run in a real situation. Nothing for it but to test it out.

"Energy Field!"

It takes a second to run for the first time, but--a sparking pink orb appears atop her right palm, tickling her nonexistent skin. The kankrelats nearly run into each other, and Aelita's face breaks into a huge grin. "Jeremie, can you see this?!"

A loud sound rings inside her head, and it takes her a moment to realize that was probably him clapping his hands. "Yes, YES!" She hears a faint whirring--he's probably spinning his chair around.

Originally, she'd asked for energy beams, but Jeremie had immediately vetoed the idea--apparently, it'd be a nightmare to get something like that to accurately track her hand position, let alone the matter of its range. But he'd been willing to work with the basic concept.

"Now just throw it, like a ball!"

Aelita pulls her hand back, aiming carefully as the kankrelats regain themselves and rev up to shoot. She hurls the field into their midst, then immediately cartwheels herself away from their laser fire.

She turns upright just in time to see her field connect with the rightmost kankrelat. It begins to glow pink all over, vibrating in place with a high-pitched whine. Its body explodes, leaving its legs scrambling around briefly before they blink out of existence.

"IT WORKS! EAT it, XANA!"

His shouting is actually hurting her head a little, but she definitely understands his excitement, having seen it before when he finally breaks through a tough problem and felt the same thing right alongside him.

"Do you think it's actually watching?"

"I sure hope so! That'll teach it to think twice. Do some more!"

She imagines he's probably wiggling in his chair, or bouncing his leg, in the way he tries to suppress when anyone's actually watching him. Anyone except her, of course. It's just a sign of his enthusiasm, too strong to be contained inside his body.

She obliges him. With the program still running, she doesn't have to call it again--she simply focuses, and two more fields appear in her hands. She throws them both at once, but this time her aim isn't as straight, and they fly wide of both remaining kankrelats. Aelita hops sideways out of the way of another shot, then tries a third, this one hitting the leftmost kankrelat cleanly on its Eye and also blowing it up. The remaining creature starts scurrying around in circles.

Aelita lets out a satisfied chuckle, looking down at her own hands. "I can finally fight back..."

She hears Jeremie give a long sigh of relief. "Yeah...Oh, he didn't like that. Three bloks just spawned behind you. Okay, I'm pulling you out..."

Aelita's smile drops, her jaw setting as she slowly turns towards the approaching enemies and dismisses the visual uplink. Now comes the part of the test run she hadn't told him about. "No."

"What?" He seems to catch onto her idea immediately, all the mirth leaving his voice in an instant in favor of a low, sharp tone that would probably succeed in hiding his panic if he were talking to anyone besides her. "Aelita, don't, there's no reason to."

"You said it would work."

"I said it should work, there's always a margin of error."

"Is there any reason it wouldn't work?"

"Were you planning on doing this the whole time?"

The bloks approach, spinning their faces towards her and powering up with an ominous red glow. Aelita merely raises her hands in surrender. "XANA isn't going to hold back on me anymore. It's better if we make sure this works now, not in the middle of an attack."

"But you might--!"

"I won't," Aelita says, with all the confidence in the world. "I trust you, Jeremie. You should, too."

The first laser hits her in the hand, and she marvels at how it sparks and distorts to reveal the wireframe underneath. It feels like her lower arm had suddenly fallen asleep--in other words, not at all how getting hit had felt before. It wasn't real, actual pain, and it stopped the same moment the sparking did. No wonder the others could bounce back from injuries so fast.

"Aelita!"

"See you in a second."

The second hits her shoulder, the third her leg, and the final shot from the remaining kankrelat hits her directly in the back, dealing extra damage.

It's not a pleasant sensation, by any means, and she hadn't expected it to be. It's like her body loses what little mass it has in Lyoko and her limbs freeze up, the world going blindingly white, and then she's unimaginably heavy again, wounds that are no longer there still tingling. She slides down the back wall of the scanner as the machinery above her head whirs to a stop and the air pressure equalizes itself, feeling like she's just run a good few kilometers without a break in the middle of summer.

Aelita raises her head as the scanner hisses open, to find Jeremie already halfway down the service ladder, nearly tripping on his own feet in his hurry. He jumps past the last rung and rushes towards her, skidding to the ground on his knees and gasping for breath, his eyes impossibly wide.

She just smiles at him, scooting herself out of the scanner and waiting for him to pull himself together.

After a few seconds of panicked wheezing, Jeremie smacks the base of his palm into his forehead with an audible thwack.

"Aelita!"

His voice isn't angry, more of an annoyed groan than anything, and Aelita giggles, leaning forward and letting him throw his arms around her tight.

She buries her face in his neck, still smiling. "I told you so."

"You--you're worse than the guys, you know that?! You people are gonna give me a heart attack..."

He still sounds somewhat breathless, and as she pulls away, she can see there's still genuine pain and fear in his eyes. Okay, maybe she feels a little bad, now--this was a lot to thrust on him after everything.

In consolation, she leans forward and kisses him on the cheek. "I told you," she whispers, "I'm not going anywhere, I promise."

Still rewatching Code Lyoko, I'm on episode 19 now!

Some things I'm remembering or just realizing that I wanted to share:

Yumi had a little brother right? I've yet to see him shown or mentioned. Suspicious.

The returns to the past make XANA more powerful (but they don't know that yet) and they actually had a few they didn't need to time travel for in my opinion so they just enjoy the benefits of time traveling and gaining a days worth of future knowledge right? Makes that episode I remember of them getting mad at Ulrich for using it to win the lottery to help Yumi's family even weirder to me. Part of the reason they got upset was that it was "cheating" even tho no one supposedly won if Ulrich didn't do that....but knowing the answers to an exam, pop quiz, homework, getting one over on another person they wouldn't have been able to before, etc. they don't blink an eye at that kind of more apparent cheating. But winning cash money was a problem?

Could just be Dumb Kid Syndrome 🙄

That girl, Taelia/Talia, Jeremie was convinced was Aelita with amnesia was a missed opportunity for later episodes when Aelita does appear. How interesting would it have been if this snarky lookalike and apparent orphan started drama because she wanted to believe she and Aelita were related, likely twins, due to similar appearances and coloring. But instead she's never seen or heard from again after her 1st appearance. Why? It's not like she left after a day. And Wiki fandom says she's never spotted or mentioned again.

Theo the new guy gets reappearances but is never important. And Odd had to uselessly ruin Sissi's chance at happiness with notUlrich who was just as cute just because he wanted to avoid Theo and Herb having a rivalry over Sissi? Ridiculous. He doesn't actually give a shit about Herb and he could easily find a different way to help Theo if he really didn't want to stay up late to scare Herb away from tattling to Jim again.

It's a shame he never regains interest in Sissi after that from what we're shown thanks to Odd. Theo/Sissi could've been so cute! And got Sissi to stop obsessing on Ulrich.

Jeremie...is wrong alot for being the group Einstein. He also might lowkey be a sociopath or something the way that the wellbeing of others, friends included, seems to always be secondary to his obsession over Aelita.

The background characters be looking like they up to interesting things sometimes.

Very 1st episode of season 1 and Sissi just...awoke and chose violence for real. Like I remembered the scene but it's just...😂 I know Sissi could be bitchy, she was typical arrogant mean girl for awhile...but they had her very 1st scene and appearance be her just straight up going ham on that one red headed little girl reporter for the school.

FOR NO REASON.

She really said her name is now Sissi the Bitchy McBitchenstein Esquire the 3rd. 🤣

She didn't have to make that little girl cry. But she did. She didn't have to insult her 25 times in a single conversation. But she wanted too.

She wasn't sorry about it either. And she'd do it again.

Sissi was straight up wildin right out the gate on this show.
